AI Visibility Tracking: Does AI Recommend Your Website?

Potential customers now ask AI assistants which product to pick. AI Visibility shows whether the answer includes you.

VerifiedDR blog card for an article about tracking whether AI assistants recommend your website.

Ranking in Google is no longer the only way people discover products.

Potential customers increasingly ask AI assistants questions such as:

  • What is the best backlink monitoring tool for a SaaS company?
  • Which platforms help founders find relevant website partnerships?
  • What is a reliable alternative to traditional Domain Rating tools?
  • Which SEO tools are best for improving authority?

The important question is no longer just whether your website appears in search results. It's whether AI assistants recommend your business when someone is actively looking for a solution like yours.

VerifiedDR's AI Visibility tracking feature measures exactly that.

What is AI Visibility?

AI Visibility measures how often your website or brand is recommended by AI assistants in response to real buying-intent questions.

VerifiedDR currently tracks visibility across:

  • ChatGPT
  • Perplexity
  • Google AI Mode

Unlike some AI visibility tools, VerifiedDR doesn't treat every citation as a meaningful recommendation.

An AI assistant may cite one of your blog posts as a source without suggesting your product, mentioning your brand, or positioning you as a solution.

That citation may generate awareness, but it doesn't necessarily indicate commercial visibility.

So VerifiedDR separates three signals:

  • Whether your brand is mentioned
  • Which competitors are recommended
  • Which websites and pages are cited as supporting sources

This gives you a clearer picture of how AI assistants understand your market and where your business fits within it.

We ask real buying-intent questions

You can't measure AI visibility accurately by asking an assistant directly about your own brand.

For example, asking:

Is VerifiedDR a good authority growth platform?

doesn't tell us whether VerifiedDR would be discovered naturally. The brand is already in the question, so the answer is biased.

Instead, VerifiedDR turns your tracked keywords into neutral buying-intent questions that never mention your company.

A tracked keyword such as:

backlink partnership platform

could produce questions such as:

What are the best platforms for finding relevant backlink partnerships?

Or:

Which tools help website owners find trusted link-building partners?

These are the kinds of questions a genuine potential customer might ask while comparing solutions.

Your AI Visibility score is based on whether assistants independently mention or recommend your brand in their answers.

How VerifiedDR measures AI visibility

Each visibility run takes your tracked keywords and converts them into a set of commercially relevant prompts.

Those questions are then submitted across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Mode.

VerifiedDR analyzes each response for:

  • Brand mentions
  • Competitor mentions
  • Recommended products and companies
  • Cited domains
  • Individual cited pages
  • Differences between platforms
  • Changes since the previous run

The result is a visibility snapshot showing how frequently your business appears across the questions that matter to your market.

One score, with visibility per AI platform

The main AI Visibility score gives you a simple overview of how visible your brand is across all tracked prompts and platforms.

Aggregate scores can hide important differences, though.

You might appear frequently in Perplexity but rarely in ChatGPT. Google AI Mode may rely on a completely different collection of websites when generating its answers.

That's why the dashboard also tracks visibility separately for each platform.

The AI Visibility dashboard includes historical trends for:

  • ChatGPT visibility
  • Perplexity visibility
  • Google AI Mode visibility
  • Overall visibility

That shows whether your authority is improving across the AI ecosystem or only within one model.

See exactly what changed between runs

A visibility score is more useful when you can understand why it moved.

VerifiedDR compares each new run with the previous snapshot and displays the most important changes.

You can see when:

  • Your brand started appearing for a question
  • Your brand disappeared from an answer
  • A competitor gained visibility
  • A competitor lost visibility
  • A platform changed which businesses it recommends
  • A new page began receiving citations
  • A previously cited source disappeared

The comparison only evaluates questions that appeared in both runs on the same platform.

This matters because adding a new tracked question shouldn't look like a visibility increase or decrease. VerifiedDR separates actual movement from changes in the prompt set.

The result is a cleaner and more trustworthy view of your progress.

Discover the pages influencing AI answers

AI assistants frequently rely on third-party articles, directories, comparisons, discussions, and industry resources when constructing recommendations.

These sources can be more valuable than the AI answer itself.

VerifiedDR collects the pages cited across your tracked responses and displays them in an outreach table.

For every cited website, the platform can show authority data including:

  • Domain Rating
  • TrueDR
  • The specific cited page
  • The platforms using the source
  • The prompts for which the page appeared

That list turns AI Visibility from a report into a set of concrete outreach targets. Instead of only learning that competitors are being recommended, you can identify the pages helping those competitors become visible.

Turn cited pages into outreach opportunities

Suppose several AI assistants recommend a competing product and cite the same comparison article.

That article may be shaping how AI systems understand your category.

You can then investigate whether the page:

  • Is missing your product
  • Contains outdated information
  • Includes an incomplete comparison
  • Accepts product submissions
  • Is maintained by a potential partner
  • Could be improved with your original data or expertise

This creates a practical outreach opportunity.

You could contact the publisher with an updated description, original research, a product demo, a partnership proposal, or a contribution that genuinely improves the page.

Not every citation will lead to a placement. But seeing which pages repeatedly influence AI answers gives you a much more focused starting point than generic link building.

Why authority still matters for AI visibility

AI visibility and search authority are closely connected.

AI assistants often depend on content that already performs well in search, is frequently referenced by other websites, or comes from trusted domains.

That means traditional authority signals still matter, even when the final discovery happens inside an AI interface.

VerifiedDR combines AI visibility data with its existing authority intelligence.

This allows you to examine not only which pages are being cited, but also whether those sources have credible authority.

TrueDR adds an additional layer by evaluating whether a website's apparent authority is supported by factors such as trust, traffic, domain history, and spam risk.

A citation from a strong, relevant website may be far more meaningful than a citation from a domain with an inflated headline metric.

AI visibility is not the same as citation tracking

Many tools describe AI visibility primarily as citation monitoring.

Citation tracking is useful, but it doesn't fully answer the commercial question.

A company can be cited without being recommended.

For example, an AI answer might cite your educational article while recommending three competitors. In that situation, your content has visibility, but your product doesn't have meaningful buying-intent visibility.

VerifiedDR records cited pages, but the primary score focuses on brand presence within answers to neutral commercial questions.

This distinction helps you separate:

  • Content visibility
  • Brand visibility
  • Product recommendations
  • Competitive visibility
  • Source authority

These signals can overlap, but they aren't interchangeable.

Automatic monitoring without constant manual runs

AI recommendations can change as models, search indexes, source pages, and competitor positioning change.

VerifiedDR keeps the data current through scheduled refreshes.

Snapshots older than seven days are considered stale, while manual refreshes use a one-day cooldown. Eligible paid accounts are also refreshed automatically when their visibility data becomes outdated.

Each website retains up to 30 recent snapshots, allowing the dashboard to display trends over time without creating an unlimited and increasingly noisy history.

This gives you enough data to identify meaningful direction rather than reacting to every small answer variation.

What you can learn from AI visibility tracking

The feature can help answer questions such as:

  • Do AI assistants know that our product exists?
  • Which buying-intent questions trigger our brand?
  • Which competitors are recommended instead of us?
  • Are we gaining or losing visibility over time?
  • Does our performance differ between ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google?
  • Which third-party pages influence recommendations in our category?
  • Which cited websites are credible outreach targets?
  • Are our authority-building efforts improving AI visibility?
  • Which topics should we create stronger content around?
  • Where is the biggest gap between our search presence and AI presence?

The goal isn't another score. It's to show what's happening, why it may be happening, and what you can do next.

Why we don't use basic LLM mention databases

During development, we tested external datasets designed to report brand mentions across large collections of AI responses.

For most companies outside globally recognized consumer brands, these datasets returned no meaningful results.

A zero didn't necessarily mean the company was never recommended. It often meant the dataset hadn't asked enough relevant questions about that specific market.

We took a more direct route: targeted questions based on the website's own tracked keywords and market.

That produces visibility data specific to the business rather than data that depends on whether the brand happens to exist inside a broad third-party database.

From rankings to recommendations

Search visibility tells you where your pages rank.

AI visibility tells you whether assistants understand your brand well enough to recommend it.

Both matter.

A website might rank for several useful keywords but still be absent from AI-generated recommendations. Another company may dominate AI answers because it is consistently mentioned by authoritative comparison pages, communities, directories, and industry publications.

VerifiedDR brings these signals together.

You can track your authority, search performance, backlink opportunities, partnerships, cited pages, competitors, and AI recommendations in one place.
